After a strong performance at the BSG Triathlon in Worcester, my confidence is at its best again.
I had a good Future Life breakfast and sipped on Cytomax before the race. I felt ready to get stuck in a dark place during the race known as the hurt box.
I had a good swim, going my own pace as usual and found I had a decent 20s lead and decided that I will try to stay away for this race. I pushed hard but the working power of Wian Sullwald, Erhard Wolfaard and Pieter van der Mescht was a little too strong for me and they closed the gap with about 5km of the bike leg left to go. Erhard, Wian and I came into T2 first and the podium positions came down to the three of us. Wian started hard and fast but slowed down quickly, so Erhard took advantage and surged ahead. I responded quickly and put a surge into him. Both of us dropped Wian and I found myself pushing in front the entire way, trying to shake off the experienced Erhard, but he was just hanging on after all my surges and attempts to do so. Just before the finish we hit a 1km gravel/sand/stones surface and I felt very uneasy. About 20 metres from the end of it, Erhard attacked and I couldn’t respond to his long legs and speed and he sprinted to the line first.
I am very happy with my performance and well done to Erhard for the win and Wian for rounding the podium. Thanks to BSG for a great, well organized event as always.
Thanks to my support from FINIS, Future Life and Cytomax and as well as my family and girlfriend for their support.
I have included a really cool video for you to watch from the race. All filmed with a Gopro HD Hero 2 camera. Enjoy in HD!
