Ending my 2012 year off with an ITU Africa Cup win was more than I could ask for! I however had knee bursitis that has been niggling and turned into an injury, leaving me to struggle with an inconsistent flow of training until this past week. It is now back to a niggle and slowly fading away, giving me the chance to get into a full training regime again.
On the 6th of January I competed in the KZN Triathlon Championships in Richards Bay where I won the elite title with a comfortable margin of 6 and a half minutes ahead of South Africa’s Triathlon legend Glen Gore. I was very happy with a strong performance. Training hasn’t been exactly as planned. I did however take the experience of my race and identified some weak areas where I need to work on and improve for this season.
Next week will be a very exciting time for myself. I will be unboxing my brand new Specialized Venge with Sram Red components! The bike is sponsored by FINIS, and I cannot thank them enough for the support they have given me. It will be my very first brand new bike that I get to keep. It will look like this… I am very excited to welcome some new sponsors on board. I recently just got welcomed into the HUUB Design family for the next 2 years. HUUB currently have the best wetsuit on the market with their Archimedes. One feature I am particularly excited about is the “break away” zipper. This feature provides you with the fastest exit out of your wetsuit when the seconds count! More amazing features of the wetsuit can be seen on the video at the end of the post.
I also would like to thank Christopher Wilcox from Classic Eyes, who will be looking after my eyes and supporting me with the best Oakley Sunglasses for this season.
And lastly to Puma who will be looking after my feet with running shoes for this season. I have been using the Puma FAAS shoes since November and I have found that it is the “perfect fit” for my feet and running style. They are fast, light and comfortable. That is all I need!
I would like to thank all my sponsors for their support. I look forward to my second race this year and my first ITU race being the SA Triathlon Sprint Champs taking place in Cape Town on the 17th February.
